Dr. Tonya Cash

Dr. Tonya Cash leads with a deep commitment to inclusive and restorative practices.

A proud graduate of Fulton High School, Dr. Cash grew up in the Christenberry community and lives by the school motto she embraced early in life: Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve.

Dr. Cash began her career in education as a fifth-grade teacher at Christenberry, serving in the classroom for eleven years before stepping into leadership as Assistant Principal—a role she held for a decade. In 2023, she became Principal of Christenberry Elementary, continuing her long-standing dedication to the school and its students.

She believes in the power of education to transform lives and encourages every student and staff member to RISE UP to become the person they were meant to be. Under her leadership and through a strong team culture, Christenberry maintains a record of high student growth and low teacher turnover. Dr. Cash is passionate about creating a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment for every student, every day.

Christine Furman

Mrs. Furman brings 26 years of experience in education, with a deep-rooted commitment to the students, staff, and families of the Christenberry community.

She began her teaching career in Florida, where she taught fifth grade for two years before joining Christenberry Elementary in 2002.

Over the past 24 years at Christenberry, Mrs. Furman has served in a variety of roles. From 2002 to 2013, she taught both fourth and fifth grades, fostering a love of learning and academic growth in her students. She then spent the next 10 years as the school’s Numeracy Coach, supporting math instruction and curriculum development across grade levels. In 2023, she stepped into her current role as Assistant Principal.

Mrs. Furman holds a degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Elementary Education from Carson-Newman University, as well as a Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University.

Her dedication to educational excellence and community engagement continues to shape a positive and supportive environment at Christenberry Elementary.

Gwynne Carey

Mrs. Carey shares her almost four decades of professional experience in education with Christenberry Elementary School. 

Mrs. Carey began her career in education as a special education teacher in 1986, teaching for 18 years in various urban, suburban, and rural communities in Western Kentucky and Middle and East Tennessee (Knoxville). She is currently in her 31st year as an educator in Knox County Schools. She taught special education students at Ridgedale Elementary, Spring Hill Elementary and Karns Annex.

Mrs. Carey began her administrative career at Christenberry Elementary in 2004. She served as the Assistant Principal/Principal at Beaumont Magnet Academy during years 2005-2012; Rocky Hill Elementary Assistant Principal 2012-2014; Spring Hill Elementary Assistant Principal 2014-2019; Amherst Elementary Assistant Principal 2019-2021; and Cedar Bluff Elementary Assistant Principal 2021-2023. She is presently part of the Christenberry Elementary Administrative Team.

Mrs. Carey holds a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education and a Master's Degree in Special Education from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). She also holds an Educational Specialist Degree in Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University (LMU).
